RTG was born back in the 80's when a couple of Grad Students decided to start a theatre company based at their alma matter (Carroll College).
Named after May Nickel Rankin, first professor of theatre at Carroll (circa 1896)
Both of us received May Rankin Scholarships in Theatre and we decided it would be a fitting tribute to name the company after her.
The Rankin Theatre Guild was originally a summer effort, between bouts of Graduate Studies in theater. It was mostly Carroll students and alumni, and at one time there were plans to grow the company. But, full time jobs, families, and responsibilities soon overtook the dream. But, those were marvelous dreams, and wonderful people.
The plan (at the moment) is to take baby steps, inch my way to retirement and produce a few small projects along the way.
Barefoot in Nightgowns at Midnight was a huge learning experience; new medium, new methods, and the challenges presented as we produced a work in the middle of the pandemic. We created our own little social pod, took responsibility for ourselves and each other and made it through healthy and happier in what we accomplished. Is it perfect, hell no. But, we loved telling this creepy little story in, what we hope is a very entertaining way.
